Mini Six is now CC-BY: Ray Nolan, co-author of Mini Six: Bare Bones Edition has made his new version, Mini Six: Bare Knuckle Edition, available under a CC-BY license. The original version of Mini Six was made using the Open D6, which was released under the OGL. Bare Knuckle Edition is a complete restatement of the old WEG system; Nolan said the new version was made “to allow a pathway for writers who choose to build their game on the Mini Six rules to do so without relying on the OGL”. Lowell Francis of Age of Ravens described the original version of Mini Six as being “WEG’s d6 System stripped down to basics . . . a solid, solid package and one worth looking at if you’re hunting for a robust but light system”.

I know, I know, Star Wars day was last Saturday. Still, with news coming out of the lively d6 community it seemed like a good time to look back at the granddaddy of Mini Six, Open D6, and a number of other games built on West End Games’ original body of work. From the archives today we’re taking a look at Seamus’ review of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Fantasy Flight reprinted the original for a 30th anniversary, giving us a chance to look at the original in a new light.
Discussion of the Week
Remember, Session Zero only works if you actually communicate to each other like an adult: It’s a canard of sorts here at Cannibal Halfling that the underlying solution to essentially every RPG problem is ‘talk to your players’. Here’s a Reddit reminder that Session Zero isn’t a buzzword or a mechanic or a system, it’s simply a time when all the players in a game get together before the game starts to talk about what their expectations are.
