Top News Stories

Paizo Workers Unionize: On the 14th, the United Paizo Workers announced their formation as the first union of its kind in the tabletop roleplaying game industry. Under the umbrella of the Communication Workers of America’s CODE-CWA project, the UPW is currently at the stage of asking Paizo to voluntarily recognize them – if Paizo agrees the UPW will immediately become a legally protected union. If not, then matters will progress to a National Labor Relations Board election.

Any casual observer of the industry as an actual industry will have heard horror stories, and the last time Paizo landed on the Weekend Update there was a whole thread of them. Hopefully this effort will lead to some of those horror stories becoming things of the past, as workers – at Paizo and elsewhere – strive to band together and support one another.

You can follow the union on Twitter through the first link, and can find more information – including ways to show your support – on the UPW’s site. #UnionizePaizo

Discussion of the Week

Avoiding the Temptation to Change Systems: The question was poised – how do GMs avoid the temptation of changing what game system they are running, especially when the players just want to engage with the characters and story points they already have? There’s some good advice about avoiding the Curse of the Wandering eyes – and in a very timely fashion, We’ve Got An Article For That.™
