Top News Stories

Dicebreaker’s owner ReedPop is “investigating” a potential sale of its gaming websites: PAX Unplugged is this weekend, so it’s interesting that ReedPop, the British events company who owns events like New York Comic Con and PAX, is looking at selling its Gamer Network, sites which include video game websites like Rock Paper Shotgun and VG247 but also (and most relevantly to our readers) tabletop games site Dicebreaker. Now, a sale in and of itself is neutral, but when these media outlets are viewed as revenue-generating assets first (as usually happens in a business sale), it often means that quality and editorial freedom are at risk in a transaction such as this one. For now, Dicebreaker’s staffing and output are unaffected. More on this story as it becomes available.

From the Archives

As we begin to wrap up the year, we’re rolling out a new Weekend Update feature for 2024: ‘From the Archives’. With Cannibal Halfling Gaming nearly seven years old at this point (*crumbles into dust* – Ed.), our back catalog has been growing for some time and there are many gems from the earlier days that don’t come up as much, or are just hard to find. From the Archives takes a recent event, product release, or fun thing that’s happening, and ties it to a Cannibal Halfling article from years past.

This week Bundle of Holding released a new bundle for Bluebeard’s Bride, a horror game from Magpie Games. Between that and it being the fifth anniversary of the article, it’s a great time to look back at Seamus’s Bluebeard’s Bride review from November of 2018.

Discussion of the Week

What are your most anticipated ttrpgs of 2024?: While December has just begun, it’s already time for ‘best of’ lists to start cropping up across RPG media. By the same token, games slated to come out in 2024 are also entering the discourse. Here’s one of the first Reddit looks at RPGs on 2024; let us know if your favorites are mentioned!
