Top News Stories

Hasbro names new Wizards of the Coast president: John Hight is in as the new president of Wizards of the Coast, coming from Blizzard where he led development and operations for the World of Warcraft line. This comes as a result of Cynthia Williams’ resignation in April, and continues Hasbro’s push for video game and digital oriented leadership at WotC.

From the Archives

Wizards of the Coast announced that they will be selling 3,000 special GenCon copies of the new D&D 2024 Player’s Handbook with 50th anniversary gold foil logo and a Gen Con 2024 bookplate. They’ll cost $49.99 at the show, but I shudder to think about the secondary market. From the archives today we’re talking about RPG collecting, and its two sides: The fun impulse to gather up all the neat games you find, and the utterly capitalist response to that in the form of special editions, Kickstarter exclusives, and dungeon module t-shirts.

Discussion of the Week

Systems/games that are clearly love letters to certain genres: One of the easiest and most fun ways to engage with TTRPGs outside of the traditional dungeon fantasy mold is to go through genres of other media that you already love. This thread has some great suggestions for high points of genre emulation in the roleplaying world.
