Top News Stories

It’s GenCon!: GenCon is going on as we speak, having started on Thursday and going through tomorrow. GenCon also means the ENnies, and the winners are all compiled in this handy Reddit thread. Congrats again to all the nominees and of course the winners.

From the Archives

August is GenCon season in the RPG world, no doubt, and that means a shift in focus towards the new and the big. This year especially, all eyes are on the new D&D sourcebooks, Wizards of the Coast’s largest marketing push update for the game in a decade. Five years ago, though, we were making sure to put out indie RPG content even in the month of GenCon; contributor Jason Brown was hard at work making sure we didn’t get distracted by all the awards and shiny mainstream publications. From the archives we have his review of For the Queen, a game that has since gone on to get a second edition with even more incredible artwork in its card deck.

Discussion of the Week

RPGs where everyone has spells?: A solid recommendation thread that’s narrow enough to get some good answers. I’m running a game right now where everyone is a wizard (in Burning Wheel!), so checking out other systems based on this conceit is personally interesting. Looks like I’m going to have to take another look at RuneQuest.
