Top News Stories

KiwiRPG week returns with Te Ao Māori TTRPGs, a week of livestreams, and more from Aotearoa! Beginning tomorrow June 15th and coinciding with Matariki, the Māori new year, Week is “a showcase of new Kiwi creativity across the tabletop role-playing game field” – and this is its fourth year! There will be livestreams and shows (thankfully, from our perspective, also recorded due to the time difference between here and Aotearoa New Zealand), bundles and sales on itch and DriveThruRpg, the launch of the KiwiRPG Library, and even the release of new modules and games! This event looks really cool, and you can find all the information you need via the fine and elegantly-crafted link above – and we’re hoping to have some relevant articles this week as well!

From the Archives

With Aaron beginning another System Hack series trying to make a colony sim game like Rimworld in Cortex Prime, it might be a good time to re-read his article about decisions and endings in video games and how they can be considered for tabletop games.

Also, behind the scenes we’ve got our hands on some playtesting documents, as we sometimes do. No spoilers, but let’s say there are even more reasons than usual to recommend I Have No Railgun And I Must Scream.

Discussion of the Week

Do people actually enjoy tracking ammo, torches, and encumbrance? As you might imagine, the answers are pretty diverse – and the overall conversation is how using or ignoring specific mechanics can change the kinds of stories you can tell, even within the same game system.
