Top News Stories
‘Game Changer’ part of the Tribeca Festival: Premiering on June 17th, ‘Game Changer’ is a documentary short focusing on Tanya DePass, the founder and director of I Need Diverse Games and a prolific game designer; her most recent work is on Into The Mother Lands, which is still funding on Kickstarter until June 20th. While most of us won’t be able to get to the premiere in New York, the film will be available to stream on Tribeca At Home starting June 18th.
Print on Demand Cost/Price Changes at DriveThruRPG: As announced in OneBookShelf Newsletters and on the DTRPG Discord, hardware changes at publishing outfit Lightning Source are causing some changes in pricing for Print on Demand products on DriveThruRPG starting July 1st. Long story short, the printer that had been used for premium color products is being taken out of service, and the switch to different printers at LS is causing price changes.
Black & White and Standard color products will remain the same or may even see a drop in printing costs (down by as much 9% in one case), meaning that creators may actually see a slight increase in their profit margin. Premium color products, now referred to as ‘ultra-premium’ by LS, will see significant increases (up to +53% at the high end) in cost which will be passed on to customers or force creators to slash their own profits, which may not be viable for many. The silver lining is if your PoD product is being printed in the UK – every product will either have the same cost or see costs drop there. You can check out this spreadsheet, released by OBS, to see the projected cost changes for the varied product qualities and page counts.
