Top News Stories

AI-generated profiles of TTRPG designers ignite fury across social media: The Bluesky ‘main character’ of the week was Ken Whitman’s 4 Pillar Games, a site hosting AI-generated profiles of RPG designers, notably without asking for their oversight or permission. Not only were the profiles riddled with misinformation (and the AI-doctored photos creepy to say the least), but even after giving the benefit of some big doubts, no one could really figure out what the game plan was to actually make money off the thing. Even within the week it appeared that the project began to fall apart, with other contributors breaking off. Shannon Appelcline has aggregated some of the saga on Bluesky.

From the Archives

Fallout keeps on rolling as one of the most popular video game adaptations, with the continued success of the Amazon Prime Video series rolling into news and speculation about both season 3 and the (potentially far in the future) next game in the series. The Fallout tabletop RPG continues to be on the weaker side of the franchise, but luckily there’s a lot of post-apocalyptic games out there. From the archives this week is System Split: War Never Changes, which both reconsiders the Fallout RPG after its (large quantity of) errata as well as reviews After the Bomb by Aaron King.

Discussion of the Week

One more thing about Ken Whitman: Amidst all the 4 Pillar Games hubbub, Ken Burnside of Ad Astra Games dropped what is an absolutely incredible anecdote involving Whitman, print on demand, and GenCon 2006. I can’t even begin to summarize it if I tried, so check out his thread.
