Wizards of the Coast Declines to Recognize Union: An update from the news last week, WotC has declined to recognize United Wizards of the Coast, the union created by the development team for Magic: the Gathering Arena. While this is wholly unsurprising given who we’re dealing with, this is only the first step and the next one is an election through the NLRB, which will be held ‘in the coming weeks’. As union reps say, Wizards has the option to voluntarily recognize the union ‘at any time’.
From the Archives
On this day eight years ago, we departed from ‘May the Fourth’ to look at a different piece of space science fiction. From the archives this week we’re taking a look at Aaron Reed’s Archives of the Sky.
Discussion of the Week
Gamefound wants to throw another successful RPG Party after learning hard lessons: Gamefound is trying to compete in the crowdfunding space with Kickstarter and Backerkit, and they’ve carved out a solid niche in the board game space. TTRPGs are an area they’re looking to break into, and one of those efforts is RPG Party, an event that pushes for fewer, higher quality projects than other events like Zine Quest and Zinetopia. In this Rascal interview, new business manager Cam Bradley discusses RPG Party, how 2025 went, and the learnings going into 2026. While more competition is always better, I’m left wondering if Gamefound is aware of how Backerkit has been differentiating, given some of his responses (interviewer Chase Carter seems to note that and other concerns in the introduction, finishing his initial remarks with, simply, “it’s a start”).
