From the Archives

The Mistborn Adventure Game from Crafty Games is coming to an end – the digital versions will no longer be available to purchase after tomorrow, December 31st, so they’re all at a pretty steep discount. Relevance to the CHG Archives? The review of the core game was the first article posted here at the same time as on the Mad Adventurers Society, as opposed to being ported over from the MAS Archive for preservation.

Discussion of the Week

Ending a 15 year Game Group: Keeping up any social group is tough; how many of your friends from high school have you called recently? Arguably a gaming group is even tougher, what with constantly trying to balance everyone’s schedules and play preferences for the months or years it takes to run a good campaign. While this discussion has some good subthreads about maintaining groups and getting back on the horse, as another member of a long running group I’m here to empathize with the OP, and pour one out for their group.

A Glimpse Into the Vault: PAX Unplugged Edition

Today, we have a special PAX Unplugged Edition of A Glimpse Into the Vault, with a special roundup of board games of interest I came across at the con! Now, this is a little unfair, as this is a grossly cursory look at only some of the many games and vendors that were on display, but with the extensive number of products available I only had so much time and attention to really dig in. Luckily, I managed to get on the media list for PAX Unplugged, so I was fortunate enough to be solicited by a number of people interested in getting attention for their game, and from that I managed to schedule a slew of interviews about different games. We previously chatted with Brendan Conway about Unbound, the latest supplement for Masks: A New Generation, but today we’ll be tackling the board games I got to see in greater detail, and the creators who I had the chance to interview.

The Independents: Mistborn Adventure Game

The immortal Lord Ruler reigns over a land of ash, where it is a daily struggle simply to keep crops growing. Nobles play games of intrigue and lead lives of luxury while an entire peasant/slave caste known as the skaa toil away with no rewards other than enough food to survive and maybe fewer beatings. Every night the land is cloaked in mists, and the skaa whisper of monsters and demons and people who can use metals to perform magic. Among all this are the crews, those who go beyond their station and beyond the Lord Ruler’s laws to try and accomplish their goals. One way or another, the outlaw crews fight back against the world that seeks to oppress them. This is the world of Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn novel series, and this is the setting of the Mistborn Adventure Game from Crafty Games!
